Charlotte Castillo

I am a contemporary realist expressionistic painter and I love to use bold and vibrant colors. Foremost, I love to paint people, but I also find joy in painting the landscapes in and around my home in South Lake Tahoe, California.

As far back as I can remember, I have always had a desire to create art. As a young child, I remember laying on my stomach in the sun with colored pencils and watercolors painting Pooh Bear and the Hundred Acre wood on the porch. My art is influenced by a sickness I had as a child that left me incapable of speaking louder than a whisper as I underwent routine surgeries on my voice box. Through this experience, I learned to be an observer, listening to conversations without contributing; free to zone out and study the world around me. Although I speak in a normal tone now, I believe those years I spent quiet still greatly influences my art practice and the way I communicate.

My love of travel is another key influence in my art. In fact, it was while I was away on a study abroad in Brazil when I was eighteen that I first took an oil painting class and found a love for the medium. After completing my AA in 2008, I transferred to Sonoma State University to obtain my BFA in Painting with a minor in Art History. I hope to one day return to school to obtain a master’s degree and teach art.

I am happily married and God blessed us this year with a sweet baby boy.

I welcome commissions. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments  🙂
